Publishing giant prepares to go on the iPad

GQ_feb_2010Condé Nast is reported to be making iPad versions on some of its top titles.

According to a Brand Republic article, Apple’s newest gadget would feature digital versions of GQ, Wired, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker and Glamour magazines.

A test version of the technology magazine Wired is already been published but the first magazine to be available on the iPad will be men’s magazine GQ in April.

In May, users are expected to be able to download the June issues of Vanity Fair and Wired. IPad schedules for the remaining two magazines have not yet been confirmed.

The company is keen to find a perfect ad model and is hoping the iPad experiment will follow the digital success enjoyed by the Glamour.com website.

Several different pricing and advertising models are expected to be tested in search of the best way to advertise on the iPad.

Condé Nast’s plans follow the findings of a recent survey showing that the web has beaten newspapers in popularity in the US

The Pew Research Center report placed the web as the third most popular form of news after local and national TV.

The report said: “News awareness is becoming an anytime, anywhere, any device activity for those who want to stay informed.”
