Facebook UK’s top advertising platform on the web

fbNew figures from ComScore place Facebook firmly as the biggest online advertising platform in the UK.

The number of ads on Facebook is reported to have grown 33% in the last year.

The social media giant is reported to have served 19.7 billion ads in the UK during May this year – almost four times more than second-placed Microsoft.

Google Sites managed to reach third place on the list with its 2.68 billion ads, beating both eBay (2.71 billion) and Yahoo Sites (2.4 billion) by an inch.

Pet shop aims to capitalise on its growing online presence

petsathome (3)The UK’s largest pet shop, Pets at Home, is set to improve its online presence with the help of search engine specialists.

The campaign, which is aimed to improve the company’s online visibility and increase traffic, has already yielded positive results following initial work, Epiphany Solutions – the search specialist – revealed.

Initial results have boasted significant improvements on rankings for key search terms, including ‘dog food’, ‘cat food’ and ‘dog beds’, the latter rising 64 positions to be ranked 6th on Google.

Apple rolls out iAd

iad_logoApple’s long-awaited advertising platform is looking to do for mobile marketing what Google’s AdWords did for the websites.

Set to dominate mobile advertising, iAd is launching with pre-launch bookings worth a reported $60m featuring brands such as AT&T, Campbell Soup Company, Chanel, Nissan, Unilever and The Walt Disney Studios.

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs is naturally over the moon about the new platform saying it “offers advertisers the emotion of TV with the interactivity of the web”.

Google-boss: Future is mobile

Matt Brittin, Google’s UK and Ireland managing director, is anticipating a mobile revolution, the Marketing Week reports.

According to Brittin, we are at the very start of “a revolution where the internet and mobile devices collide and it’s going to change the world over the next three years”.

Speaking at the IAB Engage for Mobile conference, Brittin highlighted faster, better connection; smaller, cleverer devices; low costs and the cloud as the key drivers in the rise of the mobile. He urged the audience to act as mobile pioneers to drive the medium forward at this critical stage.

L’Oreal and Grazia magazine have launched an augmented reality (AR) ad campaign starring North East’s sweetheart Cheryl Cole (or is it Tweedy again?).

Promoting L’Oreal’s Glam Shine Reflexion lip gloss, the campaign is said to have been designed to introduce “an original and memorable cross-platform push”.
